The Weeknd Cuts Ties with Swedish Retailer H&M After Racially Insensitive Hoodie Placed on Black Child
Another insensitive advert gone wrong.
R&B-giant The Weeknd, who recently released an XO collection with H&M, has officially announced he will no longer will be working with H&M after a racially insensitive slogan “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle” was seen worn by a black child on the retailer’s website. The Weeknd took to Twitter to say:
woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo. i’m deeply offended and will not be working with @hm anymore… pic.twitter.com/P3023iYzAb

The topic has caused much controversy. H&M has since released an official apology on the matter:
“We understand that many people are upset about the image. We, who work at H&M, can only agree,” H&M said Monday in a statement to The Washington Post. “We are deeply sorry that the picture was taken, and we also regret the actual print. Therefore, we have not only removed the image from our channels, but also the garment from our product offering globally. It is obvious that our routines have not been followed properly. This is without any doubt. We will thoroughly investigate why this happened to prevent this type of mistake from happening again.”
