Yesterday, QB and black man Patrick Mahomes signed the richest deal in sports history.
The Kansas City Chiefs and QB Patrick Mahomes have reached an agreement on a 10-year contract extension worth $503 million that keeps him in Kansas City through the 2031 season, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He also has an injury guarantee in the deal that is worth $140 million. It includes $477 million in “guaranteed mechanisms” and ability for Mahomes to have outs if guarantee mechanisms are not exercised. The total value of it surpasses the 12-year, fully guaranteed $426 million deal that Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout signed last year in 2019. He was set to earn $2.8 million this coming season and $24.8 million in 2021 after the Chiefs picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract in April.
$503 million over the next 12 seasons. Mahomes is the youngest player to ever win Super Bowl MVP and I personally believe he is the greatest QB to play this game already and he has only played two seasons. Overall, Mahomes has thrown for 9,412 yards with 76 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in 31 regular-season games. In five playoff games, he has thrown for 1,474 yards with 13 touchdowns and two interceptions. Unstoppable at times he seems, he makes plays that it seems only HE can make. $503 million seems like plenty, but why not just give the man $1 Billion? Isn’t he worth it? We will see how the next 12 seasons go to determine that number.
