2019 ComplexCon: Chicago Recap with appearances by Jerry Lorenzo, Aleali May, Gunna and more

ComplexCon Chicago was considerably the first of it’s kind to enter the city to embrace Chicago’s curator, designer and streetwear scene. Attendees included designers and artists like Jerry Lorenzo, Don C, MANO, HXLT Aleali May, Joe Freshgoods, Brandon Breaux and even Cole Bennett of Lyrical Lemonade.

Creators like Lena Waithe stopped by the The Hundreds booth to reveal her new collection and posed for flicks with political activist DeRay Mckesson. The Hundreds also showcased collaborations with Bricks & Wood and Joe Freshgoods.

Performances from Rick Ross, Saweetie, Ella Mai, Juice WRLD, Tobi Lou and Schoolboy Q lit up the main festival stage during Complexcon Chicago. Special DJ sets from Chicago’s Vic Lloyd, MattBoyWhite, King Marie, Smoko Ono and more kept ComplexCon perfectly soundtrack during the convention.

Chicago native singer and songwriter, BJ The Chicago Kid, joined newly launched brand, 83 Futures for a candid chat about the importance of organ donations in multicultural communities. 83 Futures debuted at ComplexCon as a collab that saves lives featuring releases by Jeff Staple, Naturel, Earl Mack, Primitive, Diamond Supply Co. and more. Additional notable influencers who came by the booth to sign up include Premium Pete, Bobby Hundreds and Bun B.

Music legends Questlove and Black Thought joined Complex host Speedy Morman to speak to the powerful influence of hip-hop on culture in the “AMC Hip-Hop + Social Justice: The Power of Your Voice” panel. Attendees also got a sneak peek of their new AMC series, Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America.

NBA legend Allen Iverson, Wale, Don C and Russ Bengtson later gathered at the ‘Complex Current’ stage to discuss sneaker culture through hip-hop to a standing room only crowd.

Vic Mensa hit the ComplexCon campus to share his clothing line 93 Punx & Cold Chillen and meet with fans in his hometown.
